7 million: that's the number of flower bulbs planted every year in Keukenhof, a park located a short 30-minute bus trip away from Amsterdam, with the most beautiful (and famous) tulips in the world.
The park only opens for about two months a year: to be precise- during the spring season. The date set to visit the Keukenhof this year and admire these beautiful flowers is from March 21st to May 20th. So you better hurry and book a tour to visit the fields; you've only got 2 months a year to do so!
For those who really want to enjoy an unforgettable "flower-tour", a good plan would be to combine the visit to the Keukenhof with the Flower Parade, the traditional annual event that travels in a 40 km route from Noordwijk to Haarlem. In this parade, 30 decorated luxury cars travel accros the 40km route and fill the city with lots of music, and of course, flowers. This year, the parade will take place on the 20th of April.
Amsterdam also has a Tulip Museum, where people can discover all about the history of tulips and their influence in different civilizations and parts of the word. Mixing the flowers with art, the museum is only a 15-minute walk away from the city's Central Station and an makes for an interesting hub of tulip knowledge.
Amsterdam is an incredibly fascinating place to discover and moreso in the season of spring. Beautiful tulips fill the country and one must definitely admire the tulips once in their lifetime.
