...It was a few weeks before Christmas and all through the house the Yelpers were prepping the room for the first-ever Knok-hosted holiday bash! Light-up santa hats were placed round the room, secret santa gifts were stacked under the tree, homemade Spanish tortillas and other pica pica were placed on the table, the DJ was dusting his discs, and the Miniblack champagne was being chilled in the fridge.
In the spirit of sharing and local travel Knok and Yelp decided to invite their communities to come together and toast to the upcoming holiday vacations. For the Knoksters, it was a great way to share their love of home swapping with their new friends. For the Yelpers, famous for their ability to throw awesome locally-curated events, it was a way to show the home swappers some of the unique products made right here in Barcelona. Such as the delectable mini cupcakes from Sweet Dreams, yum-azing!
In between snacking and drinking, the night was filled with inspiring travel stories and good cheer. Eduardo & Almudena, a Knokster couple, explained how working as freelancers enabled them to fully take advantage of home swapping to see the world while staying for free. Another adventurous couple, Edgardo and Julia from the Barcelona Travel Bloggers Group also inspired us with their story of quitting their jobs to explore the world together! (See their interactive route made on tripline and read about their remarkable travels in Asia and Europe.)
Another highlight was the Secret Santa recycled gift exchange! All who attended brought an item from their homes that they no longer used as a gift. This way we all saved money, and turned trash into treasures and some very funny memories! Last but not least a grand raffle was held, and one ecstatic Yelper took home the prize of a one-year membership at Knok.
We'd like to thank all who attended and wish our friends in Barcelona safe and happy holidays. Home swap and live the local experience in good cheer everyone!
