Croatia: The Unknown Beauty in EuropeMay 17th, 2012 - by Anjali
No doubt that every country has their own beauty, but some especially dazzle us even more… Perhaps we don’t expect their beauty or perhaps because we had no idea that such beauty existed in that country. And when the unknown surprises us, what a wonderful feeling it is. This is precisely the feeling that several travelers feel when they visit Croatia.
With a mainland as well as territorial waters and little islands to explore, Croatia is definitely an interesting package to experience Europe and visit a new country. The Plitvice Lakes National Park is a must-see-place where you can admire the 16 lakes this park has along with the waterfalls, fauna, turquoise blue waters that absolutely make everyone’s eye twinkle with admiration. But when you walk into this national park you cannot walk oblivious to the fact that this was the area that the Serbs had taken over in 1991 and the day that the Croatians began fighting for their independence. Lots of blood was shed over the soil in Plitvice National Park and in spite of it’s beauty, it is also worthwhile to recognize the historical importance of such a place.
In your visit to Croatia, don’t miss out hopping from island to island on the Adriatic Sea; there are many ferries that run between the islands that can help you hop around. The islands are specialized for different things: party islands, beach islands but there is one that particularly accommodates all preferences: Rab Island. Considered to be one of the greenest islands in the Adriatic, Rab is covered with sandy beaches and pine forests. But it isn’t only particularly famous for it’s nature but also for it’s culture and medieval buildings and old town walls.
Summer is just a month away and Croatia is definitely an interesting option to consider as a holiday place for this summer! Start planning your summer holidays with a home exchange experience and live Croatia through the eyes of a local.
