They say it’s always 75 degrees and sunny in Los Angeles, and you know what? That’s actually mostly true. We in LA wear our clichés with pride – after all, they’re what make LA so famous, aren’t they? A perfect day in LA (which is not hard to pull off) makes the most of the weather and takes in the best of our most famous clichés.
The day really ought to start down on the beach with a breakfast bite at one of Santa Monica’s beach cafes, perched on the sand next to LA’s famous beach bike path. Some of these cafes do breakfast and bike rental all in one spot. Bikes for big kids, little kids, and tandems can all carry a family past the famous Santa Monica Pier and amusement park, the kid-perfect Santa Monica Pier Aquarium, the historic Muscle Beach acrobatic playground (which includes kid-sized version of all the fun), and Venice Beach, which really does have to be seen at least once.
If you reach beach overload, some iconic spots await inland as well. Hollywood Blvd. with its handprints and stars doesn’t really take a whole lot of time – so why not continue on to Griffith Park, home to the renowned Griffith Observatory (try to count how many movies you’ve seen it in while taking in the view of the Hollywood sign) and a satisfying hike to TV’s famous Bat Cave?
Of course, the best cliché of all is the view of the sunset from the Santa Monica Pier Ferris wheel, so heading back there before dusk could put the perfect coda on the day. And dinner al fresco on the Pier or Third Street Promenade just makes sense in such perfect weather.
